Too Hard on Myself:
Dealing with our Shame Wound

A 12-week psychoeducational group experience for adults

The purpose of this 12 week, psychoeducational group, is to help us understand the shame we have experienced in our culture, families, schools, and religious institutions.  We explore ways we can find healing.

WHEN

The group will meet on Wednesdays from 6 pm-7:30 pm for 12 weeks, starting in the spring of 2024. New groups will form after this as people reach out. The group will have a maximum of 10 adult participants. The fee for the groups is $75 per session, and the group is a closed group (meaning that we do not add new members once we begin). To register for this group please click on “Contact Us” below and mention “Shame Group”. The leader will meet with you in person or on Zoom to help you decide if this would be a good fit for your needs, and to get you started!

SHAME IS

  • A painful sense that we are flawed or defective

  • A wound that can be triggered by life circumstances, particularly rejection, failure, or loneliness

  • Destructive internal dialogue, including comparing ourselves negatively to others

  • An excessive need for control

  • An unconscious disowning of parts of ourselves that were met with disapproval in our upbringing

  • A wound we carry with us everyday

  • Normal, and we need compassionate wisdom to manage it well
